New Year – New You in 2012

Wow, another year has flown by. As we embark on the New Year it’s time to reflect upon the old one and set intentions for the new. Every year brings new vibrations, new tendencies and desires.
In numerology, 2011 was the year of “duality illuminated.” The number 2011 is represented by 2=duality and 11=illumination. Many people were unaware of areas in their life where duality existed, and during the year, change was thrust upon them. This created frustration, disappointment, anger, and depression because illusions and unstable foundations were shattered to make room for truth.
During the year, many became aware where duality still existed in their lives and were able to transcend those “ah-ha” moments into healing opportunities. It was a year of breaking down barriers between the us and them mentality, male and female energy, fear and faith, or light and darkness to shift thoughts, emotions, patterns, and behaviors making room for balance and a foundation based on truth.
As with every year, 2012 bring with it a new vibration. In numerology 2012 is the vibration of 5 = 2+1+2. A five holds the vibration of change, adventure, freedom, versatility, curiosity, energetic, and resourceful. Sounds like we’re all in for a BIG adventure in 2012!
In a year of “change” you may be inspired to experience new relationships, new ideas, new contracts, new plans, new enterprises, more growth, more freedom, and more variety. Awareness of how you react to the “new” helps you embrace opportunities instead of shutting them out. When you experience fear towards change or something new, ask yourself, “What’s the worst possible thing that could happen if I do this?” or “What do I have to lose if I do this?” Change is necessary to our growth and evolution, so close your eyes and jump in to the deep end.
In addition to the generic energy of 2012, you can also determine your own “personal year number” to further tune in to the subtle energy of the New Year. For example, take your birth month, add your birth date, and the number 5 (2012) to get your personal year number. Use the number 1 for January, 2 for February, and so on. For example, if your birth date is January 17 add 1 (January) +17 (birth date) +5 (2012) = 1 + 17+ 5 = 23; reduce to a single digit 2+3 = 5.
If the first calculation is a repeating number such as 11, 22, or 33, then do not reduce to a single digit. For example, if your birth date is January 16, then your personal year number is 1 + 16 + 5 = 22. Repeating digits are master numbers and hold a special significance and are not reduced to a single digit.
Predicting 2012 with the Numerology Personal Year Number
Number 1 — New beginnings and more energy
Number 2 — Better relationships and teamwork
Number 3 — More creativity and inspiration
Number 4 — Discipline and opportunities
Number 5 — Unpredicted changes and more expression of personal freedom
Number 6 — Additional responsibility and more attention to domestic affairs
Number 7 — Contemplation and spiritual awareness
Number 8 — Respect and recognition
Number 9 — Transformation and humanitarianism
Recognize change is a big part of the equation this year. It is up to us to embrace change or resisted it. To help you stay on track with your New Year’s Resolutions, join us each month for the New Moon conference call. Click here to register.

Gripping Fear
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Jana Matthews, Manifesting, Self Healing, Transformation, Transmutation
The swimming pool was a welcome relief from the sweltering summer heat. After a long day at work, my dad and I cooled ourselves in the neighborhood pool. We swam here several times a week, but tonight was different, my dad encouraged me to jump off the high dive. I looked at him in terror.
Over the summer I had mastered jumping and finally diving off the lower board, but this new request was scary! The high dive was SO high. From the pool, the platform looked like it was a million miles away. I could see other kids climbing the ladder to the platform and wanted to join them. But there was that little voice in my head telling me, “It’s too high, it’s too scary, this isn’t safe, you’ve never done something like this before!”
Finally with a lot of coaxing from my dad I reluctantly climbed the ladder. I made it to the platform and froze. The ground was so far away. The platform was moving from the wind and rebounding from other people jumping. My heart raced. Paralyzed with fear, I stood there as my white knuckles gripped the handrail. The kids behind me were encouraging me to go, but I couldn’t move. Trying to find the courage to jump, I let a couple of kids go in front of me. There wasn’t any reason I should do this. It’s scary and I don’t like feeling this way. Finally as tears welled up in my eyes I felt defeated. Fear won. I climbed back down the ladder.
Ah, good, back on solid ground. I’ll just swim for a while and forget I ever tried that. My dad was relentless. Like many parents he used guilt and shame to get me to do something. “Look at those kids up there, they’re doing it, you can too!” I kept resisting. Next came the bribe, I’d get a candy bar if I successfully jumped. Hummm… the pot got sweeter! Mustering up the courage, I climbed the ladder again. Legs shaking, heart racing, knuckles still white, I gripped the handrail and inched toward the end of the board. I stopped in fear. The handrail didn’t extend to the edge of the board. At some point I had to let go of it and walk out onto a bouncy board. My heart wanted to do this, but my hands wouldn’t let go. I edged back to the ladder and safety.
It was getting late and dinner was waiting. Oh good, it’s over, I’m safe!
A couple of days later we were back at the pool and back to my source of fear. But this time my dad encouraged both my younger brother and me to jump. Richard didn’t even hesitate. He climbed the ladder and walked off the end of the board. Rats! He did it! Even though he didn’t say anything, he taunted me with his actions. Wait, didn’t he think about how scary the jump would be? Didn’t he think he might hit the bottom of the pool? Didn’t he think he might die because he was underwater a long time? Pressure mounted for me to be next.
I took a deep breath, saying to myself, “You can do this, Richard just did it! Are you going to let him show you up?” There’s nothing like a little competition to motivate me. I reached the platform. I walked to the end of the handrail. I’ve been here before, but it was going beyond this point that scared me. With my heart racing, I still had to make the trek to the end of the board without the support of the handrail. My shaking legs began bouncing the board. With each step I wanted to retreat to the safety of the ladder, but I kept telling myself, “I’ve got to do this!”
When I reached the end of the board I heard the faint echo’s of my dad and brother’s voice, “Jump.” I’m not sure what happened next. Did I jump? Did I fall? Splash, I hit the water. A moment of terror engulfed me as I swam to the surface. Stunned and shocked I swam towards to side of the pool. Richard and my dad were screaming with excitement. I did it! I jumped off the high dive and survived!
I probably jumped off the high dive another twenty times that day. A few days later I began diving off it, and finally diving off and swimming underwater to the other end of the Junior Olympic sized pool. Even though I didn’t realize it at the time I faced some very big fears that day; fear of the unknown, fear of death, and fear of my little brother beating me!
Remembering moments like this and drawing from them has helped me face other circumstances in my life where fears cropped up. Fears are a defense mechanism set up by the ego. It’s the voice inside saying, “This is different, what will happen if I try it? What if I fail? I don’t want to disappoint myself. I don’t want to disappoint others. I don’t want to feel ashamed for failing. I would be better off playing it safe!”
But living in safety of our past experiences doesn’t help us reach new goals.
Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results.”
The ego is the voice inside that wants to keep us safe. But the false perception of safety set up by the ego is based upon our past experiences – both successes and failures. The ego plays upon past failures, experiences, and perceived threats to preserve itself.
In a split second my fear of the unknown, death and falling was overshadowed by my younger brother doing something I was scared to do. I couldn’t let him do that! The voice in my head (the ego) was overpowered by my heart’s desire overcome my fears. Being a little kid at the time I didn’t know what fears were. But I know what they are now. I know how they paralyze my actions if I allow it.
Fear = Resistance
Resistance isn’t about the change it’s about fear of the “unknown.” The unknown is this black hole; we are blind to the possibilities because the ego’s first response is fear. What if I get hurt? What if I fail? What if I disappoint myself, again? What if I disappoint others?
Do you remember a time you when you feared trying something new? Were you able to overcome your fears? After you did it, did you ask yourself, “Why did I wait so long to try this?”
What fears are holding you back from getting what you want? Join us for the upcoming “Living an Empowered Life” 3-week teleseminar held Tuesdays, September 6, 13, 20, 2011 and learn how to overcome your fears so they no longer stop you.

New Moon in Cancer Affirmations
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Jana Matthews, Manifesting, New Moon, New Moon Manifesting, Self Healing, Transformation, Transmutation
With the New Moon/Lunar Eclipse it’s a time to tune into the sensitive, empathetic aspects of Cancer to enhance your goals. The eclipse brings about breaking patterns and old energy so there is space for the new. This may be seen in organizations, institutions, individually, and in the environment.
As you go through this cycle, beware you are subject to fears generated by the collective consciousness. Look at your responses asking yourself, “Is this how I feel or am I taking on the fears of others?” This will help you stay centered and grounded. Security-conscious Cancer makes us aware of our needs and fears. But this new moon isn’t about planting seeds of security it’s about breaking up the soil to prepare.
As a foundation is crumbling, life may feel unstable. Know that your Creator has a wonderful plan in store for you; have faith in the process, and trust the outcome will be better than you could imagine. When you feel out of sorts or fearful about what’s transitioning in your life use affirmations and meditation to keep you on track.
Cancer Affirmations:
I easily flow with change
I easily separate my feelings from the collective consciousness
I am flexible and flowing
I resist less and surrender more
I easily let go and trust the Universe to support me

Full Moon in Libra 2011
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Ascension, Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Self Healing, Transformation, Transmutation
Sunday, April 17th at 10:44pm EDT (7:44pm PDT) the moon reaches its fullest point. At this time we have the opportunity to gain clarity with ourselves and in our relationships with the full moon in Libra.
The accommodating Libra moon trines self-reliant Aries sun bringing in an explosive opportunity for expansion, growth and accelerating our evolution. To many people, this time may feel like an earthquake as the energy is shaken up. For those who feel the need to control everything, this time may be very disturbing.
At this time it could be easy to get caught in dramas around you. You can circumvent this by letting go of your desire to fix things/people, and recognize the only person you can change or fix is yourself.
The best thing you can do at this time is work on yourself. What emotions, beliefs, and patterns are coming up for you that you need to address at this time? Acknowledge them, let them go, and replace them with what you want to create. Also, find like minded people to be around to support your beliefs, growth and evolution.
To offset any intensity or drama in your life, spend time in nature or find quiet time for yourself. Shaking free from old paradigms may feel uncomfortable, but know that you are constantly supported by your higher-self. Use the power within you to give you the courage to take your necessary steps and embrace the changes being presented to you during the full moon.

A Surprising Source of Inspiration
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Transformation
A couple of days ago I noticed a rabbit in my backyard. The yard is fenced and we have about two to three feet of snow so I was little surprised to see him.
We have a small shed in the yard without a door where we keep garden tools and pots for the winter. The bunny has decided it’s a safe haven for the winter. He wiggles under the hoses to a back corner where he is safe from preditors – at least I hope he’s safe because we have a bobcat that jumps the fence from time to time.
It’s a fun addition to our cold winters to see this little guy in the yard. Some days we see him, some days he stays curled up avoiding the bitter cold – yes, it does get damn cold here in the high Sierra mountains of California. It was 6 degrees this morning when I took the kids to school.
Finding food in the winter must be tough. I saw him nibble on pine boughs so in my nurturing moment I came up with a plan. We decided to save our “green” scraps to put outside for him or any other woodland creature that would like a nibble.
The menu the first day consisted of apple cores, carrot tops, and spring mix lettuce. It was a hit! He chowed it down.
One of my New Year’s goals is to eat better. What that basically means is that I eat a variety of fruits and veggies every day. This little guy has inspired me to buy more fruits and veggies. And as I eat better I will have a variety of scraps for the rabbit. It’s a win-win situation.
Whatever the reason for this little guy to wander into my yard, he has done me a great favor by inspiring me to eat better. How often do we discount the subtle messages we receive from our Creator to help us on our path and reach our goals.
Animals are always a great source of inspiration in my life, and I appreciate their presence and messages.
What is helping you stay on track with your goals this year?

New Moon in Capricorn 2011
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Transformation
The New Moon along with a partial solar eclipse is on January 4, 2011 at 1:03am PST (4:03am EST). Each new lunar cycle provides us with an opportunity to reset our priorities and refocus efforts on what we really want to achieve.
Set your goals by taking a sitting quietly for a few minutes. Take a couple of deep breaths to clear your mind. Feel yourself relax and let go of the outside world. Feel yourself opening up to receive insight and direction into what you want to achieve. Visualize sunlight coming in through the crown of your head, supporting you as you set your goals. Now ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve or change in my life during this lunar cycle?” “What resources do I need to achieve this?”
As insight, direction, or ideas pop into your mind, jot them down. Keep your list of goals and insights in a prominent location where you can view it from time to time over the coming month.
Capricorn is the most action oriented of the Earth signs. The new moon in Capricorn brings the energy of lasting conclusions, long-term results, reliable consequences, and things you can count on tomorrow.
Now is the time to pull out your lists and get to work on them. You’ll be supported by Capricorn’s attributes of hard work, stability, responsibility, resourcefulness, and results oriented energy. Capricorn is about creating systems, lists, organizations, governments, and tried and true strategies.
We’ll get an extra boost of energy with the solar eclipse in our path. Each eclipse, especially the ones over the next two years, affect our planetary grid system by distributing pulsating energy throughout our planet.
This solar eclipse rounds out the burst of energy we felt with the lunar eclipse on December 21, 2010. It offers us a time to feel renewed, focus our intentions, and manifest our desires.
With the eclipse energy along with the new moon in Capricorn, now is the time to be cautious about what you commit to. The most important aspects is to make sure you commit to your word and follow through.
In honor of the new moon we will be holding a **FREE** live conference call on Tuesday January 4, 2011 at 6pm PST (9pm EST). During the call you will be able to share your intentions for this lunar cycle. After sharing our intentions we will participate in a group meditation to set our intentions and send them into the Universe. Register here for conference call instructions.
2011 is the year of Manifesting! Let’s make it a good one! Be careful what you focus on… you just might get it!

I’ve Cheated!
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Transformation
I have a confession to make. I cheated on my New Year’s Resolution! What? Already? You’re only two days into the New Year! But it’s not what you think. I haven’t given up my goal, just began it before the New Year.
In November I went shopping for a new pair of pants. The ones in my closet felt a bit tight. I knew I had gained a few pounds. While trying on clothes I had to go up two sizes from what I have bought in the past. What?! You’ve got to be kidding me! This is ridiculous! When did this happen? They must be making clothes smaller these days, or so I justified.
But no, the scale confirmed that I had gained 15 pounds over the past four years. My weight was teetering between my two pregnancy weights. Oh, this can’t be good – I’m NOT pregnant!
It’s just absurd that this could happen to me! I was an athletic instructor for 13 years. At the peak of my career my body fat was 10.2% which is extremely low, even for men. I was a lean exercise machine. I know how to maintain my body weight.
Although we have an elliptical machine and weights at home which I was using three to four times a week, it obviously wasn’t working for me. In November there was a little internal dialogue, okay a thrashing to make a change. And change I did. I joined the local recreational center to shake up my work-out a bit, with the added benefit of changing my body.
My New Year’s goal to turn my six rolls into a six pack by releasing 15 pounds of body fat through exercise and eating better began in November. So I got a jump start on many of you who are just beginning your new weight management goals. But whether you begin today, a week from now, or a month from now, whatever you consciously and consistently work towards will be successful.
So in November I began a new workout routine. My goal is to release 1 pound a week. Doesn’t seem like much, right? But actually a pound of fat is 3500 calories. To achieve this I had to adjust my calories by 700 per day – either burning off more or taking in less.
I chose a combination of reducing the calories I ate and burning more off per day. To begin with I reduced my caloric intake by 250-300 per day and worked out 5 times per week at 250-300 calories per workout, for a change of 275×7= 1925 for food and 5×275 = 1375 for my workout, totalling 3300, just under the 3500 calories per week.
As my body was getting used to this new routine I gained 3 pounds. Yes, I know muscle weighs more that fat. But really, shouldn’t I be gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time?
For my mental sanity I decided to stay away from the scale for a while as my body was adjusting to the new routine. Five weeks into the new routine I began to notice my pants fit a bit better. So I stepped on the scale and it registered 6 pounds lighter than when I began.
Whoooo hooo! What a relief! For the last four years I have only seen the scale move in one direction. Now it was finally moving in the right direction! It really was working! Even during the holidays I was getting the results I wanted.
This week, begins my 8th week. During the Christmas break I gained two pounds back so my net effect is 4 pounds released. Although I haven’t reached my 1 pound per week goal yet, I’m so grateful for the four pounds that have left in 2010.
I’ve modified my original goal and have plans to shift my work-outs to permanently move the last 11 pounds out.
Every goal we set requires that we takes small steps to achieve it. For some reason, body fat seems to go on much easier than it takes to get it off. My original goals have changed since I began 8 weeks ago. Each couple of weeks I’ll adjust and shift work outs so my body is “surprised” by what it’s going through.
So whatever your weight management goals are for the year be patient with yourself. You can achieve it, but it takes time. It takes about three weeks for your body to adjust to the change. And in the 13 years I was an athletic instructor, week three is where most New Year’s resolutions were given up. People were frustrated because in that time frame they weren’t seeing results.
Making changes is about the transformation and journey instead of the destination.
2011 is the year of manifesting. How can I help you reach your goals this year? Join us for our monthly New Moon Manifesting conference call on Tuesday January 4, 2011 at 6pm PST (9pm EST). Click here to register.

Celebrate… New Year… New You!
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Transformation
I know it’s silly… but I still get excited about New Year’s Eve. It’s the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Some chapters seem to be more memorable than others, some I’d rather forget all together, but it feels like a great time to make a change. Not to mention, January is my birthday month. Yes I celebrate the two weeks before my birthday and the two weeks after! So every day in January is a party for me!
So I know for many making changes (resolutions) to do something different may be a challenge. Often times when we fail to work towards a goal it give us an opportunity to beat ourselves up. So why even try, right? But what if you stopped with the negative criticism? What if you kept moving forward even when you hit bumps in the road?
I haven’t had a client yet that moved forward continuously. No! We move forward a few steps, then back a couple, then forward again.
Any change requires that we step out of our comfort zone. That’s why we take the steps forward and when it feels too uncomfortable then we try to get back to our comfort zone. It’s a touch stone to give us a familiar place to come back to, yet we know the situation no longer works for us so we find the courage to move forward again and again. You did this pattern when you were younger and you’ll do it every time you make a change.
Keep in mind this isn’t a race or destination… it’s a journey. As we make changes within us, we create changes outside of us. The journey is more important than the final goal. What’s most important is that we continue on a path, no matter how jagged, moving in the direction of our dreams.
If we keep this in mind anything we set in motion to change and fuel with your emotions will be successful. How many times have you made resolutions that you did for other people? It’s no wonder you failed! The emotional charge wasn’t there feeding it!
Your intentions, goals, resolutions, or whatever you want to call them have to come from your heart! It isn’t what your spouse wants, or your family, or your boss, or your friends, or whomever, this is about you and what you want.
Without the heart and your emotions fully committed, your success or ability to achieve your goals will be limited. So before you dive into your New Year’s resolutions take a step back and ask yourself, “How emotionally committed am I to this goal? Am I doing this to please someone else? Am I doing this to feed my ego?”
By stepping back and seeing what is really motivating your goal you may gain valuable insight into yourself. By learning more about yourself you’ll discover underlying resistance that holds you back from getting what your really want.
This year is about YOU!
It’s about YOU healing to your highest possible perfection!
It’s about YOU creating what you want!
It’s about YOU caring enough about yourself to heal and evolve!
It’s about YOU shifting your prioritize so align yourself with your God/Goddess-self!
You have the capacity within you for greatness. Now is your time to shine and create an AMAZING year.
Happy New Year! Happy New You! Celebrate the God/Goddess YOU are!
What can I do to help you manifest YOUR brillance in 2011 and beyond?

Transitioning into the Aquarian Age
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Inner Alchemy, Manifesting, Transformation
Our lives are governed by many patterns. There are patterns within us and patterns outside of us that influence our lives. One such pattern we are familiar with is the zodiac signs. About every 30 days the sun enters a new zodiac sign which has characteristics that influence us during that month.
The earth also transitions through a longer pattern called the zodiac age. It is similar to the zodiac signs we travel through every 30 days but the time period is estimated to last about 2,000 years.
The earth and its inhabitants are influenced by the specific zodiac sign it passes through for this time period. By looking at where we have been, we can have a better understanding of our potential future.
Right now we are transitioning out of the Piscean phase and into the Aquarian age. Renowned author and medical intuitive Carolyn Myss describes the duality of the Piscean age we are just exiting:
…the fundamental blueprint of Pisces (two fish swimming in opposite directions) expressed itself in a continual need to divide and conquer, separate and study, split East and West, body and soul, male and female, yin and yang, the left-brained from the right-brained, the intuitive from the intellectual…
These characteristics clearly describe the way we have lived for the past several thousand years. But we are seeing a difference in our world as we straddle between two signs. Carolyn says this about the zodiac age we’re moving into:
…Aquarian consciousness holds the template of holism (holy) – to draw humanity together. Thus, holism has become the template for medicine, the environment for the beginnings of a global community, and for how we now model ourselves: body/mind/spirit. Holism has become the new soul impulse. We are now living between eras – half in Pisces, an age of separation – and Aquarius, an age of unity and holism.
By understanding how we are influenced by this transition we know the old way of doing things will no longer work and learn to embrace a new way of holism. As we adapt to the changes around us instead of resisting the easier the transitions will be. Understanding our personal patterns and external patterns helps us learn to master ourselves and our lives.
