Wise Tip: The Lies We Tell Ourselves
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting, Transformation
“Humans are born in truth, but we grow up believing in lies. One of the biggest lies in the story of humanity is the lie of our imperfection. It’s just a story, but we believe it, and we use the story to judge ourselves, to punish ourselves, and to justify our mistakes.”
~ Don Miguel Ruiz
“The Voice of Knowledge”
Questions to Ponder:
What lies do you tell yourself?
If you stop believing in your story, how will your life change?

Solstice!
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting, Transformation

We spent a wonderful evening by the Truckee River in celebration of the Summer Solstice. The evening was graced by the beautiful voice of Emily Tessmer who sang and led us through a series of chants. Participants infused their intentions into roses, daisies, pinecones that were laid on an altar to be purified the group’s energy. Water was collected from the Truckee River and passed around the group to bless, heal, and honor the earth’s water supply.
We finished up the evening with a group meditation and Oneness Blessing given by Alaina Reichwald and Emily Tessmer. Once the blessings were complete we removed our items from the altar and released them and the blessed water into the Truckee River. Thank you to all who joined us in making this an extraordinary night!
Experience the summer solstice in Truckee, CA next year by joining us for a 3-day Solstice Retreat filled with sacred ceremonies and information to facilitate healing the physical and emotional bodies. We invite you to join us for this life-changing event.

Gifts and Guidance

“When we choose to remain calm under trying or frustating circumstances we are “training” our emotional bodies to become greater instruments to receive the gifts and guidance of Angels.”
Questions to Ponder:
Do I react in frustration?
Can I choose to respond calmly?

Summer Solstice Celebration
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting, Transformation
The sun will soon be reaching its apex in the Northern Hemisphere on June 21, 2010. It’s a time of celebration and honoring our sun and all the benefits it provides for us. It’s a time for expansion and growth by caring for ourselves and others instead of resisting changes.
Do something to honor the sun and yourself on the solstice. Coming together in ritual and community has been a longstanding tradition of many cultures. If you’re in or around the Lake Tahoe area on June 21st, join us for our Solstice Celebration at the lower BBQ area of Regional Park on Brockway Road at 7pm. Emily Tessmer will be performing her beautiful music followed by a river releasing ceremony and oneness blessing. For more information email me at info@janagroscost.com.
If you can’t join us in Tahoe, look for solstice events in your area or create your own. Honor yourself and our sun this solstice!

The Zone
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting, Transformation
Have you ever felt that place where your efforts were effortless? A place where the mind wanders and time seems to disappear. People often call this space The Zone; and it’s available to anyone at anytime. But for many tapping into it can be difficult because of the left brain’s endless chatter, lists, and desire to control, which trips us up and inhibits the right brain from simply flowing.
I’ve experience the zone in many different ways such as long distance running, hiking, biking, driving, and writing. It takes practice to learn to relax the left brain’s desire for control, but once that’s stopped, the right brain take over and everything flows effortlessly.
One way to reach the zone is through meditation. The intention during meditation is to quiet the mind and listen to the creative possibilities that get drowned out by the left brain trying to calculate, analyze and figure out every move. During meditation the brain waves are slowed down to a theta brainwave state, which is the place the brain reaches right before we fall asleep. By learning to consciously access the Theta Zone, we train our brain to reach that state more easily in everything we do.
Some of the ways The Theta Zone can be used include:
~ relieving stress, anxiety, and tension
~ receiving solutions or insight into resolving problems
~ relaxing the body
~ slowing down the heart rate and reducing blood pressure
~ releasing and resolving emotional distress
With all the stresses placed on us as adults, everyone would greatly benefit from daily meditation. But I’ve also learned the benefits from working with younger people. As a mother of two teenage daughters, I’ve taught them to use meditation before ballgames, tests, and other times they feel stressed. As a result they claim to have less testing anxiety, less reactive to situations, and overall feel more peaceful. I’ve even had several of my kids friends ask to join our meditations.
What a great tool to use during the many transitions kids face while growing up! I wish I had a clue about meditation when I was a teenager. But I can offer it today to anyone interested in joining us. We will be holding meditation for the next four Wednesdays, May 19th, 26th, June 2nd, 9th, at 7pm PST (8pm MST, 9pm Central) to help with testing anxiety, sports visualization, improving focus and concentration, relaxation, and emotional distress.
During the next four weeks this FREE meditation service will be available by calling 805.360.1000 access code 403871#. The live call will last about 30-40 minutes. Please let anyone you know who needs a little stress release to join us! What a perfect way to finish up the school year and prepare for finals. And, parents, you too are invited to join us!
You can also register at www.JanaGroscost.com/events and we’ll send you a reminder email a couple of days prior to the next meditation and let you know of other upcoming kids events.

Wise Tip: Expression
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting
“Our only real job is to be as fully expressed as possible and to channel the utmost goodness into everything we do.”
Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to express yourself to the fullest in everything you do? This is the foundation of “living in the present moment.” Each of our senses is engaged to enhance every experience instead of mindlessly following repetitious patterns.
By immersing all of the senses into every experience, we learn to feel more deeply and think more expansively. We listen with our hearts to inner promptings and insight, instead of conventional reasoning. We attune ourselves to greater opportunities available to us by making time to listen and observe our world. Subtle patterns begin to emerge and direct us on a path towards revelation, peace, self-development, and understanding.

Wealth Tip – Marketing Your Work for Free
Posted by Jana Groscost Matthews | Filed under Healthy, Wealthy & Wise Tips, Manifesting
Mark Victor Hansen, Chicken Soup for the Soul guru, often says, “We all have a book within us.” Getting it out is another story. And once the book is written – then what? How do you get it out there? In my Wealth-Tip: Financial Fitness post on February 27, 2010 I suggested looking at your expertise or creative talents and write a book about something you’re passionate about.
The process of writing and marketing a book may be overwhelming to many potential authors. Of course we all want to know what will happen once our book is written. Will anybody read this? Will it be a best seller? Will it be a flop? Until you actually take the steps in getting the book or information out there you will never know what will come of it. The most important step is moving toward your goal, not the end result. There is so much you learn about yourself during the process.
Those that do take the plunge often believe once their book is completed it will become the next best seller, trusting an agent or Oprah will magically find it and push it to the top. Although this happens occasionally, most often writer’s have to create their own platform (a marketing plan) to enhance the efforts of an agent/publisher. Think about it, if you’re going to make the investment into writing and marketing it, wouldn’t you want most of the profits instead of giving them to an agent or publisher?
Mark Victor Hansen is a big advocate of self-publishing your work. The Chicken Soup for the Soul book was rejected by publishers and agents initially; co-authored books were considered taboo. Yet, Mark and Jack worked very hard to get their books out there; and look at the success they’re created. There are Chicken Soup books for almost everyone! Of course, now they have an agent and publisher, but their profits are based on volume, which typically doesn’t happen with first time book writers.
My husband Jason and I are both writers and have been to many writing and marketing workshops to understand what it takes to get our writing work into the public eye. We both naively believed that once our work was written it would virally spread. There have been many years of frustration, heartache, and doubt in the process. Passion is our driving force. We whole-heartedly understand this is our mission is life; providing great information through our writings. Our challenges have helped us understand how to teach others how to express, market themselves, and release limiting thoughts and beliefs that kill success.
After attending a recent book marketing workshop, Jason discovered he was providing more information to the other workshop participants than they were receiving from the event. So when he arrived home he was inspired to write a “how to” book. And 30 days later it’s done! How to Make, Market, and Sell Your Ebook – All for Free is a great resource for understanding the process of building readership and marketing suggestions available for FREE on the internet.
We never know what opportunities are created by the challenges we face. One mantra that I constantly remind myself of during challenging times is, “There is something I’m learning, and there is something I can teach.” This reminds me to be less resistant to the process and open to the situation. Jason has created a new coaching niche to his writing business helping others produce better books and more exposure.
Another benefit of Jason’s new book and blog, How to Make, Market, and Sell Your Ebook – All for Free is the marketing tips are applicable to any business. My new book is in the process of being written, so I’ve skipped over the ebook publishing information and after implementing a couple of his suggestions, my website traffic tripled in the first month.
Jason and I have tried many of the traditional methods of marketing our work. Why spend money when there are so many effective ways of marketing yourself and your work for FREE. Find your passion and write about it. Who knows what where it will lead you.
