Thrown a Curve Ball

Have you ever had a situation that turned out completely different than you imagined? Sure, we all have! This week during the New Moon conference call I was thrown a curve ball. At the designated time I called in the conference and was unable to access it. There were technical difficulties. I tried several more times and still was unable to get on the call.

From my computer I can see participants that are waiting for me to join is, but was unable to communicate with them. I thought the issue was related to my phone or internet connection. While I was trying to figure out how to get on the call I kept asking God, “How can I quickly resolve this issue?”

In a split second I was inspired to call my old conference number and it was working fine. Then the next question was, “Okay, how do let everyone know that we are moving?” On the screen I could see most of the phone numbers for most of the participants that were patiently waiting. So I quickly called the people who had stayed on the line and posted the new number on Facebook to hopefully capture others that were still trying to get on the call. It worked! We were able to switch lines and had a wonderful call. If you’re interested in listening to it you can access the recording at 641.715.3413 access code 867778# then press # again when it asks for a reference number.

So why am I telling you all of this? It was a reminder that things don’t always work out the way we intend. How we react to the curve ball is the lesson.

1) Be patient – take a step back (and a deep breath) and ask for assistance. Getting all flustered or angry will not resolve the situation.
2) Be flexible – when we hold onto expectations of how things should work out, we often miss opportunities
3) Be creative – moments of stress open us up to opportunities that we never imagined. By asking for assistance you’ll be inspired to take a different path that may help you make the right connections or changes the outcome in the best possible way. Learn to let go of rigidity and be flexible.

Finally, this New Moon was influenced by Gemini who influences our communication and relationships. Learning to communicate differently has been a theme this week. If you’re unable to get your point across in, look for other ways to express your point. Saying the same thing over and over won’t get you different results. As I sent out a follow-up message after the conference call I received several emails back with stories about how over the past couple of days they have had to communicate differently.

The more you can learn how to work with a curve ball instead of avoiding it the easier it becomes to faces difficult challenges. Look at the subtle messages you’re receiving instead of feeling victimized by them. In doing so, you’ll be in control of your destiny instead of being controlled by your reactions.

The technical difficulties not only affected the New Moon call, but were wide-spread. Several other conference call companies experienced the same issue. This message from Gemini reminds us to be flexible in our communication.
